Dealing with extra weight

It is never easy to work off the extra weight you might have put on, and, it will take patience, time and effort to shape your body perfectly. There are plenty of ways which you can use at home, or at a gym, to shake off the extra, without causing any harm to your body in the process.

In the end, not all methods will be great for you, and you should never stick to only one. Make sure that you can make a combination, so that you can enjoy the results in the end. Though, be sure to keep track of changes, and, if you notice something out of the ordinary call on a professional. Devising a diet plan and having enough time to work out regularly will mean the difference between an acceptable and great body. Just keep in mind not to take it too far, and to have plenty of rest too.

Be a friend to your body during post-workout
The post-workout phase is just as important and as crucial as the pre-workout phase and almost as the actual workout. For instance, the muscle tissue that is gained is not gained during the actual workout. It is gained after the workout, as new muscle tissue is grown in the catabolic process that fills out the microtears in the muscle tissue that are achieved through working out. This is just one of the reasons why post-workout phase is so important and why you should be a friend to your body during this phase.
1. Get some fluids in you
You will have lost gallons of fluids during your workout, no matter what type of workout you have just had and it is absolutely crucial that you do everything to replenish the levels of fluids in your body. Water is essential for pretty much every process in your body, including the building of muscles, and without enough water, your workout will be dramatically less effective.

2. Do not forget to stretch
Stretching is not the coolest thing in the world and you may see yourself as an old man or woman who is getting ready for their power walk, but it is absolutely necessary that you do stretch after your workout. Of course, it goes without saying that you will want to stretch before the workout, but doing this afterwards is also important. 3. Eat right
During your workout, you will spend a lot of fuel and you need to make sure that you replenish the fuel by eating all the right foods. In general, it is recommended that you eat within an hour of your workout and the most important nutrients to replenish are complex carbohydrates ad high quality protein. 6. Get some sleep
When we sleep, our body excretes the growth hormone which, as it name would suggest, is directly connected to the creation of new muscle tissue. This means that you should try and get some high quality sleep as soon as you can manage. If not, set aside some time for rest and relaxation that will both help you enhance your results and also allow your body to recover.

Today I want to share some simple but often neglected “Must Dos” when you decide to complete a training session.

1. Warm up specifically – obvious but amazingly not carried out in particular with resistance training. Whether you are going to be doing cardio or resistance or a mixture it is important to warm up specifically. So if you are going to run, then do a light run. If you are going to do the rower then row for a few minutes. If you are going to do weights then do the specific exercises at 50% of the expected high intensity weight.

2. Stay Hydrated – forget your sports drinks and energy drinks just drink water. And make sure to drink water before, during and after the training session. The other drinks create false temporary spikes in energy not to mention your insulin levels (trigger to fat storage!) If you don’t remain hydrated then your performance will be effected. Remember we are at a minimum 70% water.

3. Keep workouts short but intense – don’t fall into the trap of the low intensity fat burning zones that are splattered all over the cardio machines and on posters on the wall. Use your common sense or as I like to call it “uncommon sense” – the harder you work the more effective it will be. ANd even if you are superman you will not be able to work hard and long. So focus on short duration high intensity for maximum results.

4. Step it Up – Our bodies are amazing machines with incredible recovery so make sure to step it up each and every session. Once you have stimulated the body through the exercise and fed it good recovery foods you will physically be capable of increasing your workload each and every session.

5. Focus Focus Focus – last but not least. If your mind is not focused on the job at hand you will quit (or definitely decrease workload) when the going gets tough during the session. What is driving you to complete the training session? What is the carrot at the end of a few weeks? Keep your mind on the prize. It is there for the taking.

Implement these 5 tips and your results will be much improved. Keep mindful of these 5 tips before every training session.

If possible I often suggest that people exercise during their lunchbreak especially in a very demanding and stressful job.  It will break up your day and you will return to work rejuvenated and reenergised and feeling much more positive and less stressed. Your productivity will go through the roof.

Nutrition Tip Of The Day

Avoid ready made fruit juices.

More often than not these are loaded with sugars and preservatives.  When shopping make sure you never purchase those fruit juices on the normal shelves. If you are going to get some make sure to get them out of the refrigerator as the reason they are there is that they are made from actual fruit and will go off if left out of fridge.

Those fruit juices on the shelves are made from concentrate and loaded with sugars to preserve them and give them long shelf life.  Also check out the nutritional breakdown and you will be shocked at the % that is actually fruit vs sugar.

Today is cheat day in the Sheahan household after 6 tough days training hard and folllowing rigid nutrition plan.  We are all salivating at the thought of todays cheat :

What is your favourite cheat meal?

Key thing though is on “Cheat Day” make sure it is not a 24 hour binge.

Cheat meal is sufficient. With it being 2nd December many have started to wind down, get lazy and break their good habits already. Make sure you are not one of them.
There is no reason to make christmas indulgences last a month or more.

Keep on track right up to Christmas weekend, enjoy it and then get back on track around 27th Dec. Why go through so much effort only to ruin it now???

Exercise Tip of the Day

Exercise At Home Tip : If you Like chinups then invest in the portable chinup stations that you just fix into the door frame. Great invention. And chinups are fantastic exercise if you want to develop the V shaped back and ladies that does not have to be the more male “bat wing” like back but nice slender and toned shapely back.

If cant do full bodyweight then use a chair and distribute your weight on it so that you can complete reps.


Nutrition Tip of the Day

Vary your grains when it comes to bread.  Bread these days contains so many preservatives etc.  A few decades ago bread was real homemade bread with not more than 3 or so ingredients. Now you look at the back of a sliced pan (loaf of bread) and the ingredients list is as long as your arm.

ON that note if you see “hydrogenated” anything in the ingredients drop it. Regarding the grains try spelt bread, rye bread, oatcakes, rice cakes, etc.

Do you eat porridge or oatmeal in the US?

Or do you avoid it like the plague looking at it as something plain and disgusting?

Or maybe you like it but would like it to be a bit more appealing

Well today I will share with you what I do each morning and I really look forward to my porridge.

I just use water with the oats and stir it until it is starting to fix together. I then put in some rice/almond milk and keep stirring. This creates a creamy texture. It is important to make sure that the mixture doesn’t get too dry, Need to keep certain amount of liquid in the pot all the time

And voila there you have a very appealing and tasty bowl of porridge. I see it as a treat as it is very tasty and filling and so nutritious.
