Eggs – Friend or Foe?
There is probably not a single other food on the face of the planet that attracts as much debate and controversy as the simple, good old-fashioned egg. Some experts say that eating an egg is the same as smoking a pack of cigarettes while others would have you only eat eggs. Like it is very often, the truth is somewhere in the middle and one needs to have all the information before they make their own stand and their own decision. When it comes to eggs (and other matters of nutrition science), it is extremely important to have all the facts.
Eggs are bad for you
The idea that eggs are bad for you hails back to 1980s when cholesterol was all the rage when it came to nutrition, health risks and so on. The Soviet Union was getting weaker and weaker and the western world and us with it had to find new bad guys. Cholesterol was definitely one of them. It needs to be pointed out that this was also a time when cholesterol metabolism and its impact on the health risks was not understood as well as it is today.
The fact, however, is that a large egg contains around 185 mg of cholesterol. This cannot be denied. For instance, American Heart Association, due to these findings, recommends that no more than 300 mg of cholesterol are ingested in a day. This means that two eggs for breakfast are more than you should ingest in a day, not even factoring in other foods that you eat during the day which may also contain cholesterol.
There have also been some newer studies that have shown that eating more than three eggs in a week had increased plaque in their neck arteries than those who ate less than two eggs a week. Another study has shown that eating eggs increases TMAO levels in the blood, an organic compound found in the body and suspected to increase the formation of plaque as well. And as we all know, plaque leads to cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and benefits of eggs
Eggs are good for you

One the other hand, there have been numerous and extremely large studies that have shown that eating eggs does not increase the risks of heart disease of any kind. The most famous of these is definitely the study that was conducted by scientists from the Harvard School of Public Health that involves 117,000 people and which showed that eating more than an egg a day does not increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

The absence of risks is not the only reason why eggs are good for you. Besides the cholesterol that they DO contain, eggs also contain a chockfull of other nutrients, many of which are essential for your health. They contain various Vitamin B complexes, as well as Vitamin A in abundance, selenium, various other minerals and vitamins such as manganese, zinc, potassium, iron, Folate as well as 6 grams of high quality protein. We are talking a single egg here.
In addition to this, it has been found that eating eggs actually can be beneficial for the cardiovascular system, thanks to the fact that consumption of eggs can increase the levels of HDL, also known as the good cholesterol while changing LDL, the bad one, to a subtype that is not connected to increased risk of heart disease.
There are other very interesting facts on eggs that you should learn about and that you can find here. We believe that eating eggs is not bad for you, but we do encourage you to investigate more and make your own decision.

Going vegan has made me rediscover all edible seeds. The newest addition to my cupboards is the chia seeds-a vegan superfood , which were a complete mystery to me until not so long ago. Edible seeds are actually so full of goodness-  fiber, protein, vitamins, and minerals-its all there.

Motivational Quote of the Day

A wise man makes his own decisions; an ignorant man follows the public opinion. ~ Chinese Proverb

This is a very important quote and please take good notice of it. You should live

the life YOU want to live and make the decisions that YOUR gut tells you are

right.  You will always know in your gut.  Don’t listen to others when making decisions.

Exercise Tip of the Day

Peripheral Heart Action

If you want to strip fat from your body in the shortest period of time then you need to incorporate PHA into your training regime.  This is where you alternate lower and upper body resistance training exercises.  Choose between 4 to 10 exercises and keep moving between each exercise with minimal rest.

The reason this strategy works so will is that you are forcing bloodflow up and down the body creating an aerobic effect and resulting fat burning.  Just think about how hard it is for your body to move the blood from leg muscles to chest muscles for example.

Nutrition Tip of the Day

Essential Fatty Acids

EFAs are crucial to fat burning.  IF you are not eating alot of EFAs you are limiting the amount of fat burning you are experiencing.  The truth is that there are actually 2 types of fat – Good Fat and Bad Fat.

We must avoid saturated and trans fats like the plague. However there are good fats we need to eat which include oily fish such as salmon, trout, mackeral and also other sources such as nuts/nut butters and avocados.

If you just increase consumption for the next week you will become leaner that alone!!

I have spend years educating people on the importance of good nutrition and how it is also important to keep a balance between eating healthy nutritious meals and also allowing yourself a cheat day where you can eat your favourite foods.

However one thing I have been adamant about is to NEVER EVER eat McDonalds and this morning a good friend of mine posted this shocking video on facebook which illustrates just why you should never eat McDonalds.  A long time ago a friend of mine worked in McDonalds so I got the insider secrets and besides this video another one is that the apple slices(or whatever they call them) are actually made of turnip and they are deep fried for an unbelievable 27 MINUTES!!  I will always remember when I was about 7 going to McDonalds with my mam and she had one. Despite it being on the table for 5 minutes when I took a bite it nearly burned the mouth off me. I couldn’t understand how it could still be so hot – well my friend revealed why

You must watch this video and also please get as many people as possible to visit this page as the world needs to know what they are not only putting in their bodies but more importantly their kids.

Every individual desires to include healthy food in his menu, but then the misconception that eating healthy food is akin to eating bland, tasteless food keeps many people away from eating such food, even as they start commenting that its taste is something like sawdust.
Let us first of all understand that healthy foods need not be bland, since you can add a number of spices and herbs to your everyday food, to make it healthy. They add lot of flavor without making the food unhealthy. Many people don’t have time to cook food mixing it with herbs and spices which will improve taste of healthy food. For such people there is certainly a way to make healthy foods taste better, more so if you are using high fat and sugary food.
Let us not presume that as a lover of chocolate, you will get natural healthy foods also taste something like chocolate, but healthy food can taste much better than they taste at present, in fact healthy can taste better than your expectations. When you want to improve nutrition to your body and would like healthy food taste better, you should start cutting on fat and sugar, and adopt healthy food. Keep off from refined food like sucrose.
Remember when you dismiss healthy food as tasting bad, the problem is with your taste buds than the food. You taste buds have been habituated to rich sweet food, and this makes you resent less flavored food. You should start adopting to situations by stopping eating unhealthy food, and substitute with more healthier ones.
While to begin with the new food can taste worse, especially when you change from high fat milk to lower fat content milk, the latter will taste like water. But after a few days, your taste buds will find them good, and you will relish the low fat milk as much as you did high fat milk, and you will start preferring the low fat milk to the higher fat content. The same can be said of any type of foods, high in carbohydrate-content like pasta, rice, cereal and bread. Instead of eating refined products like white rice or white pasta, go for brown rice and whole grain bread or past.
As earlier noted, healthy food may not taste good to begin with, especially when you are used to refined everyday food, but this will change in course of time. Even different kind of smell or texture will make you resent healthy food, but once your system starts adapting to new food, you will find that healthy food can taste better.
If you continue to eat high sugar and fat content in food and change only one item in your food menu, like replacing white bread, you will not be benefited by the other healthy foods, more so with sugar, since when you are eating high quantity of sugar, sugarless items will make your food taste bad, because of the addiction of the taste buds. To make healthy food taste better, you should get the taste buds back to normalcy but refraining from using lots of sugar. Though easily said than practices, switching from unhealthy food to healthy food is difficult process but it is worth the trouble.
